Holy OPEC, batman!

I just paid $1.53/gallon for regular unleaded, and I know Atlanta has some of the lowest priced gasoline in the country. What the hell are the rest of you paying?

Actually, I am really curious. What do y'all pay for gasoline/petrol? Here is a currency converter if you're outside the US.

(for the metrically inclined, 1 US Gallon = 3.79 liters, that works out to around US$0.40/liter)

Between Iraq and Venezuela, I think we're going to have to go back to horses. At least grass is relatively inexpensive.

[identity profile] indighost.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
that's approximately what i pay... though i don't get gas very often because i don't drive very much (i walk to/from work). but i think i've seen $1.37 around somewhere?? the cheapo station? =)

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
The same station was $1.39 a couple days ago. Everything just jumped like mad. I've seen it a bit cheaper, especially outside of the city limits, but it's still astonishingly high.

[identity profile] indighost.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, yeah. denver, colorado.

and as i drove around today, i noticed that it's all $1.49 for the cheapest..

grr.

Ours fluctuates but regular unleaded just bounced up to 1.64 per gal.
Bourbonnais, IL

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Where is that again? About an hour south of Chicago?

Re:

[identity profile] pignacious.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, 1 hour south of Chicago. The price went up recently from about 1.53/gal

[identity profile] teaser.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
We pay about ZAR 4.35 a litre...that's about $0.52.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not too far off. There are places in the US for around that price.

[identity profile] wild-mind.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Paid $1.49 this morning, been fluctuating between $1.37 and $1.50 since we arrived.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Puts a damper on the roadtripping, doesn't it?

Re:

[identity profile] wild-mind.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, after paying a high of $1.87 at one point in Reno, I've decided to control my complaining ;)

[identity profile] saphra.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's hovering around 1 EUR per liter here... so roughly $1.05 or something a liter... so a lot more than the US, be happy. Germany is expensive.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That is very expensive. I remember reading that during the first Gulf War, gasoline was so expensive in Greece that they would turn the car off and coast downhill, then start the car again.

I came hopping by and read a bit in your journal: Hello :)

And I figured I'd add my 2 cents worth:
I'm from the Netherlands and it's even more expensive here than it is in Germany; It's €1.10 (=$1.18) and more per liter right now. So your 40cts sounds like a great price to me ;)
I actually put gasoline with octane (spelling??) 98 in my motorcycle and that is up between €1.16 and €1.24 per liter in Utrecht right now.
Maybe I should go take my motorcycle roadtrip in the usa right now afterall....

[identity profile] canuckgirl.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid $1.49 on Monday. But it's up to $1.55 as of today. :)

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems to be around the average. It was $1.08 in the fall! Sheesh.

[identity profile] warwick.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If I've calculated correctly, we're paying about US$2.24 per gallon.

[identity profile] warwick.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid A$1.002 per litre when I put fuel in yesterday, so that's how it works out for us ...

*take two*

[identity profile] ohmyhead.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Regular unleaded is up to $1.80 here. Two summers ago it was $2.10. The attendant, when asked if it was legal for him to fuck me like that at the pumps, claimed this is a high rent area and he needs to charge more.

All I could think of then was how much rent *I* pay, and then I cried.

Re: *take two*

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you at least get a fluffer for that price?

Re: *take two*

[identity profile] ohmyhead.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Not from "Gordon", not on your life! LOL

[identity profile] alladinsane.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's running from $1.39 to $1.50 here in Forsyth County(The $1.39 is the member price at the loval BJ's Wholesale Club...they're the cheapest in town)

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen it in the $1.30s near the Fulton/Forsyth/Cherokee line, but that was a few days ago. I'm sure it's jumped.

[identity profile] hellarad.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
i paid $1.62 in seattle yesterday.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
1.62? Yuck.

(Hi! Glad to see you!)

[identity profile] hisbeauty.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
77.4 cents a litre today ...
Prices have just risen in Vancouver & Calgary so we will be hit with an increase soon ...
Rumour has it we will see $1.00 a litre by summer :(

Re:

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
About $0.50 a liter US, then. Ouch!

[identity profile] ginamoog.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
81.9 a FUCKING LITRE here.

It's like hell on earth.

[identity profile] ginamoog.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I should clarify that is 81.9 cents canadian.

If we travel to other towns going inland towards the valley it would be cheaper.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, works out to US$0.53/l, or US$2.03 a gallon. Whew...can you canoe down the Fraser to work?

Re:

[identity profile] ginamoog.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yipes! I hear in the UK it's worse.

Yeah, lemme go dig the canoe out the garage.. hahahaha:)

[identity profile] days-unfolding.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
$1.75, San Jose, CA

The price has gone down some. It's been as high as $2.00.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing San Fran has gotta be around $2.

[identity profile] jillbutt.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
$1.60 in Seattle

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Not too far off the rest of the US, looks like.

[identity profile] flirtini.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yesterday I paid $1.79 for regular unleaded. pfft.

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That's OC? Al said he's paying about the same.

Re:

[identity profile] flirtini.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... not sure what it's like in LA or San Diego, but pretty much around where I live and work (OC) it's usually around $1.79-$1.89 for regular unleaded.

[identity profile] indighost.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
so what i really wonder at this point is, is it really that much more expensive to get oil/gas right now? because of the problems with iraq/venezuela? or is the perception that it could get harder to get gas making the price jump, because they CAN?

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It is and it isn't. The gas station prices (other than the occasional asshole exception) are just passing on what they have to pay the oil companies, plus transport, storage, taxes, etc.

The oil companies, however, deal with speculative commodities, so there is some psychology (and gouging) in it. Normally, we the US gets just as much oil from Venezuela as we get from Saudi Arabia...except that Venezuela hasn't been pumping any oil for the last month. We don't get too much from Iraq, in fact France gets more oil from Iraq than we do, but war in the region will throw a wrench into shipping and storage.

[identity profile] applelard.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid $1.51 for regular unleaded on Thursday. Sad thing is that I hadn't even realized prices had risen so much in the past week or two. No sir, I don't like it!

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No, ma'am, neither do I!

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I pay ~$1.29 a gallon here in greensboro

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. It was $1.29 about 2-3 weeks ago here (in the 'burbs, anyway). If the weather wasn't so damn cold, I'd consider the cycle thing myself. My old Honda used to get around 90MPG.

Re:

[identity profile] plural.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah whats up with the damn weather
cold winter in the south?

[identity profile] nbbmom.livejournal.com 2003-02-08 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid a $1.31 this morning at Sam's Club. Other places it's around $1.47

[identity profile] starlazdaze.livejournal.com 2003-02-10 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
$1.57 in lower Delaware....

not tooo long ago the prices were in the $1.30 range...

the prices seem to rise daily

I commute an hour each way...so yeah...*cries*

Re:

[identity profile] petermarcus.livejournal.com 2003-02-10 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch. I had an hour commute a couple years ago, and I'd go through a tank of gas every four days.
