I love Anthony Bourdain. A true cynical culinary genius, seemingly afraid of nothing, be it sheep glands on a stick or the possibility of lung cancer. No Reservations is one of my few favorite television shows, except I have to keep finding it by accident. I always forget when it's on.

Similarly (and yet, not), I like watching the Food Network, for obvious reasons. As great as the network is, it's been slipping from actual, honest-to-god cooking, into some form of food entertainment. It reminds me of the slow, tragic death of MTV.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who is upset at the Food Network. Anthony Bourdain lets loose a blog entry -slash- rant against the network and its "stars":

It's a good read, especially if you have watched both Bourdain and most of the Food Network shows.

Gads, I effin HATE Rachel Ray. I have tried again and again to watch her shows but she makes me retch and scream at the television.

Bourdain is hilarious and if I had to be stranded on a desert island with two chefs, please let it be him and the "Barefoot Contessa" (Ina Garten.) I might be forced to eat animal innards and lots of weirdness, but damn I know I would eat well. >:D

Rachel is alright to me. Her shows aren't genius or anything, but I think she's okay. I actually am more bugged by Giada's head and lopsided grin, but I agree she (Giada) is the better cook.
