I love Anthony Bourdain. A true cynical culinary genius, seemingly afraid of nothing, be it sheep glands on a stick or the possibility of lung cancer. No Reservations is one of my few favorite television shows, except I have to keep finding it by accident. I always forget when it's on.
Similarly (and yet, not), I like watching the Food Network, for obvious reasons. As great as the network is, it's been slipping from actual, honest-to-god cooking, into some form of food entertainment. It reminds me of the slow, tragic death of MTV.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who is upset at the Food Network. Anthony Bourdain lets loose a blog entry -slash- rant against the network and its "stars":

It's a good read, especially if you have watched both Bourdain and most of the Food Network shows.

Date: 2007-02-09 12:00 am (UTC)My favorite one was where Sandra made this danish-thing filled with apples and almond paste-- sounded good to me-- and then she says "and I decorate it with grapes and walnuts." Huh? It was like she FORGOT what was inside and just wanted it to match her TABLESCAPE.
There should be a drinking game where you take a shot every time Rachael says "Yummo!" or Sandra Lee says "tablescape." Oh wait, there probably is.
I love Anthony Bourdain but I'm too scared to watch him. He's always eating yak spleen or some other exotic delicacy. And as you mentioned-- he's hard to find. But he's a great writer.

Date: 2007-02-09 01:20 am (UTC)Bourdain is hilarious and if I had to be stranded on a desert island with two chefs, please let it be him and the "Barefoot Contessa" (Ina Garten.) I might be forced to eat animal innards and lots of weirdness, but damn I know I would eat well. >:D
