So, a decade ago, a bunch of Brazilian ship enthusiasts built a full-scale replica of the Nina, Columbus' smallest ship. It's been described as the most historically accurate reproduction of the 15th century ship, built completely by hand, no power tools.
The Nina will be in Clearwater Harbor (a city north of me by 30 minutes or so) Thursday, and will stay until the 25th. It's on its last US tour before being permanently based in Mexico.
And I'm going to be out of town from Friday until the 26th...damn. I really want to see this ship. It doesn't say when on Thursday the ship will arrive...maybe I have to take off work early and head up there Thursday evening.

Jan. 13th, 2004 08:46 pmI need to get into some sort of exercise-type of thing, and I'm really not one for jogging or gyms. I drove by a martial arts place in north St Pete, but it was closed. I think that's the route I'm going to go, though. It's been years since I went to karate classes and I think it's the best form of workout for me. A nice blend of art vs. kicking my ass until I'm exhausted. I'm having a hard time finding a class, though, especially as I'd like to continue in what I've already taken in the past; some sort of okinawan karate form, preferably seibukan, but I think I could perhaps do shotokan or kendo as well. Something that's Japanese based, instead of Korean, Chinese, or just plain sport (like Tae Kwon Do).
On the way home, I drove by a food place right on the intracoastal and tried it out on an impulse. I don't even remember the name of it now...Leverock's Seafood or something like that. Eh. The view was nice, and they were actually geniuses by putting boxes of Trivial Pursuit cards at the bar (that would be fun with a crowd) but the food was generally unspectacular. At least it was cheap.
