My top 5

To jump on the latest fad sweeping the LJ community, here are 5 things about me that aren't generally known:

1) Places I've lived (since birth): Monterey California (born), Berlin Germany, Omaha Nebraska, Stamford Connecticut, Coral Springs Florida, Jacksonville Florida, Miami Florida, Orange Park Florida, Rockville Maryland, Troy New York, Orlando Florida, Boca Raton Florida, Atlanta Georgia (this list doesn't count moves within the same metro area -- eg. I've lived in 4 different suburbs of Atlanta)

2) I have 5 scars (they're not huge, just visible if you know where they are). I'm not overly accident-prone, but when they do happen, they leave a mark. In reverse age (newest scars to oldest):
a) left chest over lower ribs -- falling out of a tree I was climbing (I was 12 years old)
b) right middle thigh -- melting a rubber band over a candle, the molten rubber landed on my thigh (10 y.o. -- don't play with fire, kids).
c) right forearm near elbow -- climbing an aluminum ladder to my treehouse, I slipped and caught my elbow on the aluminum corner of the ladder. Probably needed stiches, but didn't get them. (8 y.o.)
d) right forehead -- fell off my bike. 5 stitches on this one. (6 y.o.)
e) two circular spots on left forehead -- when we were living in Berlin (see above) my parents took a vacation to Austria. In the hotel room, as my parents packed in the other room, I dismantled the reading lamp above the bed. I got zapped with 220V DC European current. (1 y.o. -- this is where you say 'So that explains it...')

3) Body hair: I have a goatee, but that's because that's all I could probably grow -- I'm 33 years old, but couldn't grow a full beard if I had to. I have no sideburns, either. I have no hair of any significance on my chest. But, I have all the hair on my head, and I have the hairiest legs in my immediate family.

4) When I was a horny eigth-grader, I shoplifted a Playboy from a bookstore. A week or so later, I felt so guilty about it, I secretly left exact payment (including sales tax) on the manager's desk in the bookstore.

5) The most secret of secrets: Everyone has one favorite musician or group they secretly enjoy, but don't want to tell anyone else. I like Industrial, Gothic, Punk, Alternative, and Swing, but my secret (until now) pleasure is George Michael (I love the video for 'Father Figure').

1) Wow, I think you've moved around more than I have (of course a lot of my moves were within the same town, so it probably doesn't sound like as much as it felt like)... I've lived in Bowie TX, Gainesville TX, Norman OK, Aurora CO, just south of Omaha NE, and just outside of Kansas City KS.

2)Hehee. Probably similar amount to mine. I have a small one on my forehead from when I was 2 (walked into a coffee table while playing "ghost" with a quilt on my head), a 5-stitches one from catching a piece of falling glass like a baseball (instinct, was cut before I realized what had happened), a quarter-sized circular one on my foot from a skateboarding fall, 3 from past navel piercings (that have grown in, but scars remain), my c-section scar. Oh, and a tiny one on the back of my knee from when I'd snuck out during a slumber party and we ended up having to run back. Cut that on a fence.

3) You know, lack of hair, or having fine/thin hair is a sign of being more evolved. Or maybe it's the Cherokee in me, but I'm the same way... I don't have much. What I do have is very thin and fine.

4)Did you ever tell them? I accidentally stole a piece of gum when I was 5. I thought my mom knew I had it, and when we got home, she saw me chewing it. Made me go back and tell the manager I'd stolen it. I felt so horrible, especially because I was being punished for something I didn't mean to do... awww, poor little girl Nikki. ;)

5) That is a great video. And we all have our secret likes. :)

Sounds like you have a fine collection of scars, too. Funny that most of mine happened before I was 13 -- my mom didn't think I was gonna live to be a teenager.

I should have more, but some of them seem to just heal. I had a good round one on my back, just below my shoulder-blade where someone shot me with a paint-ball at about one foot away (the paint-ball war we were playing got a little intense). I had a welt the size of a grapefruit, it bled all over the place. A friend took a picture of it and it looked like some medical textbook. I had a nice scar there for about a year, but it faded. Can't see it at all, now. And I was telling people it was my bullet wound -- not many people can get shot in the back with a .75 caliber and walk away from it...

Hmmm...my hair (on my head) is real fine, but I have a mess of it (and not just because it's long -- it's dense, too). No Indian in me, though. Mostly N. European (half Polish, then German-Latvian-Russian).

I didn't tell the manager face-to-face, just left a note with the cash and slinked off. Some sort of anonymous justice, I guess :)

And oh...a few of my entries back you said (insert flashback wavy lines): "You know, I know that one of these days you're going to say something that completely stabs against something I hold totally fundamentally important...". (insert end-flashback wavy lines). The geography of our moves made one just occur to me...even though I moved around a lot, most of my family is from Omaha and are real Nebraska fans. I have even had relatives on the team. I'm not big into college football, but I do have a soft spot for the 'Huskers. Should this be where I duck?

time to duck?

Oh yeah, boy, it's on.

Read this.

You'd better duck. With a quickness.

Or do I have to show you who's the real "big red"? I can, I will, and I'll do it (dredging up my Okie accent and phrases) right good and proper.

If there's one thing about Nebraska, they tend to choke when they're on TV.

I'll be watching (and rooting for my roots). Hope it's an interesting game and not a blowout for either side. Good luck!

Thanks, Marcus!

Good luck to you, too.
