Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50
interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and
seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over
seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than
ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly
what it is about these things that interests you so much.
98 interests....
abstract- I'm one of those "just give me the gist" kinda guys. Details get in the way.
boating- Primarily as a way to get to fishing grounds. Most of my boating consists of 45 minutes of travel, 3-4 hours of anchoring, followed by 45 minutes of travel back home, with fish. However, if there were no fishing, I'd probably still boat. The highway used to signify freedom (see Mr. Kerouac). These days of traffic control and jammed roads, there's a wider sense of freedom just at the point at which land dips below the horizon and it's just me, the boat, and the water.
cooking- Along with the interest of cuisine, there is a point at which food becomes art. That's what interests me the most.
flight- I took flying lessons once upon a time. The concept of flight, from gliders to spacecraft, fascinates me.
heinrich heine- 19th century German romantic poet. He wrote twisted love poems with a delicacy that I would not have thought possible in a barbaric language like German. I was translating some once, in my rusty family's tongue: Here's one
languages- I've studied Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese. I get by in Spanish, but I'm not fluent by any stretch. The others are just dabbles.
mysticism- Similar to abstract, the theories of what may be behind science is interesting to me. I can't bring myself to believe much of it, but the process and details of something every culture on the planet has explored makes me wonder.
quantum- There are two parts to this. First, and most obvious, is a interest in quantum physics. The second is in the process of quantum leaps that occur everywhere in nature from time to time, instead of smooth, gradual changes. For instance, Homo heidelbergensis evolved into Homo sapiens. However, there may not have been one sapiens child from one set of heidelbergensis parents, who then propagated the species. Rather, many sets of heidelbergensis parents started giving birth simultaneously to many sapiens children, all over Africa. The genetic changes to the DNA may have been gradual, but the sudden expression of those genes may have been a quantum event.
single malt scotch- Oban 14 Year is my favorite, but I prefer single malts that are less peaty/malty (such as Laphroaig), and more like whisky.
thunderstorms- No real explanation needed here. They're cool.
zdzislaw beksinski- Interesting Polish biotech painter, similar to Geiger, but a little more moody and with less sexual hangups. Here's one. As far as favorite artists go, though, he's behind Leonardo Neirman and Jack Vettriano.

Date: 2005-09-16 05:33 pm (UTC)I cooked a pan-fried Tilapia dinner the other day with a peri-peri pepper sauce, with garlic, white wine, peppers, and a dab of sour cream. Served over the fish, on white rice.
