So, there's this....sport. I hesitate to call it a sport as there's still some fine line between insanity and fun in the sports world.

Anyway. In the deep South (of which the Tampa Bay suburbs can border), there's this sport called Noodling, or Grabbling (or Kanoodling -- it's a regional term). The idea is that you swim in a freshwater lake or river, reach into a big hole under the water, and pull out the monster catfish lurking within. By its jaws. Now, freshwater cats can go 20-50 pounds, and over 100 isn't unheard of. Of course these holes are sometimes occupied by alligators, monster snapping turtles (as big or bigger than the catfish), water snakes, or, occasionally, beavers. So sticking your hand in a muddy hole can sometimes be a finger-gnawing experience.

I should at this point mention that I have never noodled. I have wade-fished on the beach for shark, which has its own risks (I should post about that some time). But noodling, to me, is just plain scary.

Now, you can buy the video of catfish grabbling in action! And wait, there's more! It's not just a video of half-drunk redneck guys noodling, it's girls!

Yes, there are pictures and video clips.

Is it so completely pathetic of me, that my first reaction was, "But...but...you'll scare the poor fish, if you disrupt it in it's natural habitat like that!"

Forget the fact that it might eat my face off.
Yeah...I'm a little goofy that way.
