I ran out after work, spent $30 on a new bilge pump and wired up the automatic line to the battery. I'm guessing I shot out something like 8" of water in the bilge in something like 20 minutes. No sooner did it shut off than the sun disappeared behind a black cloud and 50 MPH winds whipped up from the south. We got something like 2" of rain in a half hour (according to a bucket I left out on my patio) with a bit of hail, and it's been drizzling for the last couple hours since then. I went out just now to check the boat, and there was just a little bit of water in the bilge -- and it kicked on as I watched and drained it out. I still have to hook up the manual line so I can force it on when I want, but I'm not nearly as worried about that as I was about automatically draining the bilge with all the rain we've been having.

Aaaahhhh, good job on my first boat repair task!

Easier than a car. Except most of my cars haven't needed bilge pumps.
