petermarcusThe month of the punt. A side job came and went and while I didn't raise my head above water, I at least kept the nostrils dry.
A week ago today, the side job ended, my prospects looked a little dim, I wasn't sure what would be next; what my next move would be. Then Friday hit.
St. Petersburg. Florida. A full-time gig managing a telephone system engineering team in the Tampa Bay area. I phone interviewed on Friday. I interviewed in person on Monday. I headed out to Melbourne Beach on the east coast, then headed back to Tampa Bay on Wednesday for another face to face. My odometer is already 1100 miles since Saturday.
I want this so bad I'm frightened typing this for fear of ethereal net jinxing.
I find out early next week, but the interviews went so well, I'm only worried about outside influences (like budget snafus) rather than experience fits or personality conflicts.
What are the odds? A good job, not just a job but maybe even the right one, just when I need it most, in the metro area I happen to have been coveting for almost a year.
I'm back in Melbourne Beach, fishing to pass the time, spending time with family. I head back to ATL on Sunday to stare at my cellphone.
And to hope.

"Early next week" isn't so very long to wait. Particularly if you spend most of the days in the interim drinking heavily.
