So, I've had this recipe lately that I stumbled upon by accident, and I've been craving it all day. Basically, it's fish (especially grouper or snapper) with an oriental sweet-and-sour glaze, except in addition to the normal sweet-and-sour, I use rooster sauce(*) instead of the normal tomato sauce derivative (tomato sauce, paste, or even ketchup). The rooster gives it a nice chilli/garlic kick. Put the fish on a quick risotto (cook fat risotto rice like regular rice, except half and half chicken broth and wine instead of water, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm), pour the rest of the sweet-and-sour over all, and voila (or, perhaps, banzai).

I've been craving it all day, and after working all day, followed by some more plumbing at the MIL's place, I was all ready to whip it up and devour. My brother calls right as I'm plating it up, so I give it to Christey and put it in my place while talking to him. Christey takes a bite, then looks at me with an expression that I was not expecting to see. So, I took a bite myself....and gagged a bit. The snapper was definitely not edible. It had gone over in a bad way.

Which annoyed me quite a bit. I smelled it while preparing it and it didn't smell off. In retrospect, I should have been alerted to the fact that it was a little loose while cutting it (fish shouldn't separate along the grain so easily if it's fresh), but the lack of bad odor really threw me. I mean -- I know fish. Fish meat is second nature to me. Odor is usually the first serious indicator. The rest is just supporting evidence.

So, Pizza Hut is on the way. Extra cheese and pepperoni.

But I wanted my craving! And I'm not even the pregnant one!

(*) Rooster sauce has a real name which is, I think, Vietnamese. But every wannabe chef or gourmand I know calls it rooster sauce because there's a big rooster on the bottle.
