Jul. 1st, 2005 11:29 amAhhhh, the electric, burning smell of Supreme Court nomination season! With Sandra Day O'Connor out, the shark attack news will be back burner as everyone speculates.
My money is Al Gonzales, the current Attorney General whose seat was just starting to mold to the shape of his ass -- he has just barely taken over Justice from Ashcroft's departure. Gonzales would be interesting. He's pro-life, yet has said many times in court that Roe vs. Wade is constitutional and must not be changed. He proved that, too, by voting against parental notification in Texas, of all states. On the other hand he's pro-security to a point that makes me uncomfortable. He did remove the drapes in front of the nude statues at Justice, so he's no prude. He's one of the weirdest conservatives out there, which matches O'Connor pretty well.
Personally, because of the security thing, I'd rather see him as a justice than as head of Justice. There, he's one out of nine. As AG, he runs the show.
Speculation, though. This will be very interesting....
EDIT: Bush say's he won't decide until July 8th, which means, like every administration, they're going to leak a few names to see what the reaction will be. My money is still on Gonzales.
