I took the boat out all day yesterday (of course). My sister and a couple friends came along, and we buzzed out the Gulf of Mexico to a few man-made reefs (Treasure Island reef, and St Pete Beach reef) for some bottom fishing. It was a stunningly beautiful day, with a light swell on the water.

The Spanish Mackerel were biting, emphasis on the biting. They have sharp teeth and kept biting our lines and getting away. We boated one, and I got another right up to the boat before it threw the hook.

A couple hours fishing, and we ran out of beer and bait, so I ran us back in to John's Pass. We picked up some essentials, then buzzed back out again.

We decided to head in around 6pm, with towering thunderstorms coming up from the south. I threaded John's Pass, went down the intracoastal, and up the canal back to my place, and it looked like the storm missed us completely. Not a drop, though there was thunder and lightning a mile or two off.

The reefs we were hitting were 4-5 miles offshore, and I was pleased that a trip out, in, out, and then back to my place again (plus some maneuvering offshore) used just about half a tank of gas. It's a solid, dry boat, I'm really enjoying it.
