Came home to pack real quick, and I'm off to Boston. But, what do I find in my mail, but a package of CDs from the luscious [livejournal.com profile] nbbmom!!! Perfect timing as I need something to listen to when I'm getting lost all over MA!

I'm already drooling over the new Cult CD, and I haven't even opened it. And Pete Yorn! Woohoo! Thanks, Kym!

In Boston. I get off the plane, and instead of the half-burned kerosene normally lingering around airports, I immediately smell the sea blowing in on chilly gusts. Not the tropical, organic blast I'm used to, but the cold water kelp and shellfish smell of New England.

It brings back memories of childhood in Connecticut. Fishing for crabs in rocky beach tidal pools – you tie a mussel on some fishing line and dangle it in the rocky water and the crabs will jump out and grab it. I was six years old and fascinated.

I moved to Connecticut from Omaha. I remember tasting the sea to see if it was really salty. From Stamford, you could see Long Island. With a six-year old’s sense of geography (or lack thereof), I thought I was looking at England. A couple times a year, we would go to Rhode Island to get some real sea without the Island in the way. Once, there was a hurricane a hundred miles offshore. Clear blue skies, but 12-15 foot waves. To my first grade height, they might have been skyscrapers.

Grr. LJ slow tonight.

This wasp sting...um...stings. It feels like a bad sunburn about one square inch on my chest. It's not really all that painful...it just doesn't really stop. Kinda that drive-you-insane toothache kinda thing. *sigh*
