Florida is nice...hot and humid, but I don't mind that. The surf is crashing, the water is blue, the smell of salt is in the air.

I am a fishing god today, and I don't know why. They just seem to be jumping on the hook. Now, if I could only catch something edible, it would be lovely :) I'm looking for redfish, the very tasty fish that inspired Chef Poul's "Blackened Redfish" recipe. It's so good, the species was nearly wiped out due to overharvesting. They have bounced back very strongly after the commercial fishing ban went into effect, and sport fisherman may catch one a day within a very narrow size limit.

When fishing earlier, a manatee orgy accidentally blundered into my area. Imagine nearly a dozen vegetarian "sea-cows", six to eight feet long, several hundred pounds each, all in heat and looking to get lucky. Usually, they are very slow and lazy (sea-cow is a good description), and every one of them had some sort of scars down their backs from boat props (the number one killer of these endangered mammals). They seemed to be a bit more...animated...this morning.

Some fishing again tonight with my sister. The wind died down, the river chop died down, and it was just the water, the almost full moon, tons of catfish, manatees fucking noisily, and bats scooping mosquitos out of the air.

Peaceful. Almost makes up for the crap I've had in my life the last couple of weeks. But, the past is the past, every day I move forward, and things always get better.

Here's some links (if fishing doesn't really do it for you, feel free to move on. It's one of those things that sometimes you just have to be there *g* ):
Sail Cat -- Caught one of these. Pretty big one.
Hardheat cat -- Caught more of these than I can count. Some small ones up to a couple that were over five pounds
Redfish -- What I was looking for. Didn't see any.
Snook -- Snook are closed season from June through August, which means tomorrow they're fair game (within size limits).

Oh...and here are manatee. Not something to fish for (heh), but just part of the local fauna.
