Dream

Here's a dream I had last night.....

There was this arch in a room in a house that was basically a time machine. It had little sliding weights on the top like the scale in a doctor's office, one for year, month, and day. I 'knew' instinctively that I could go visit any time period, and just by wanting to come back, I'd be returned. For some reason, I wanted to go back to August 22, 1969, which would have been my second birthday. I didn't trust the auto-return, so I told my brother if I wasn't back in five minutes, to come and get me.

I went through the arch, and I think my brother came along with me. I wasn't upset with him, though -- I think I forgot I asked him to stay behind. We were near a house, in some woods, near some body of water -- a lake or pond I think. It was late summer/early fall, and we were there in our current ages (33 me, 32 bro). I'm not sure where in the country it was....it didn't seem like Omaha, where I lived in 1969. There was a little blond-headed girl with, I think, her father. He was youngish, hippyish. She was two or three -- I guess about my age, perhaps a bit older. I don't think we interacted with her much, but when we tried to go back to normal time, we couldn't go. I realized it was because we had changed the past -- the little girl had lost her knit cap because of us, for some reason. I found it, and brought it back to her near a picnic table. I stood on the table, and *zap* I was back to the present.

I realized at this point that the time machine was in my parent's apartment. They live near the beach in Florida, but in the dream, they were right next to beach -- there was a big picture window showing a sunny day with a bright blue sea. I went through the arch without looking at the date it was set to. I was still in the apartment, but it was very stormy outside -- the surf had huge waves, the skies were very cloudy, with sheets of rain here and there on the horizon. My mom was there. I asked her what date it was -- she knew I was time-travelling. She wouldn't tell me. I guessed from the storm and the surf that it must be January, and probably her birthday (today, Jan 31st, is her birthday). She admitted that it was the year 2004, January 31st (though I think at first I thought she said 2044, but I think it was really 2004). She asked me if I wanted to know what happened in the last few years. I told her no, wasn't she familiar with time travel paradoxes? She chuckled and agreed, "Okay, I won't tell you what happened. but I will say it's all for the best -- everything is very good right now".

Nikki, do you want this one? It definately ranks as one of my strangest, and I usually have pretty strange dreams.
