Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes(*), emails, and e-cards ;)
I have always had this weird thing about birthdays: I've almost never had a job. During HS and college, I always quit my summer job by now as school was going to start up and I wanted at least a little time around my birthday to veg out. After college, I started immediately into contract programming, which is sort of a month-to-month kinda thing. Like hi-tech office temps; job security is zero. So, in the last 35 years (or at least the last 20 or so), I've had a job on my birthday something like 3 times. Today, my client gave notice -- August 30th is my last day. Close enough.
It's all good, though. The entrepreneur thing is coming along, and I think I may survive a bit this time before I might have to throw in the towel and do the big-bad corporate world thing again. Knowing that these guys were going to let us go has been liberating as I don't have to think too much about them any more.
I do have to go up there next week again, though, to handoff all our projects. So, in the next month: Boston next week for biz (for the last time!), followed immediately by Omaha for a wedding, and then Vegas next month for a trade show that I'm gonna drum up some biz. In between, I may need to duck down to Costa Rica for a biz meeting. And I thought travel was going to relax a bit. Heh.
--------
(*) Except for Blue who was so busy thinking of her own birthday four months ago that she completely forgot about mine. *sniff*

Date: 2002-08-22 03:46 pm (UTC)Anyway, I really love reading your journal, and if you could swing 60 or 70 more birthdays my way in the future, that'd be just swell.
Thanks ;)

Date: 2002-08-22 07:28 pm (UTC)Since next week is your last trip to Boston we should definitely try to get together - of course I fly out (at 8:30pm) on Tues night to Bethlehem PA but I return about the same time on Wednesday evening and aside from that I'm in town and the seminar is (FINALLY!) over.
I'm also going to be in Vegas but not til October so I imagine the timing just won't work.
I'm bummed that you won't be getting up to Boston as regularly (if at all) but I guess that just means I'll have to figure out a reason to end up in Atlanta for something.

Date: 2002-08-22 07:33 pm (UTC)I'll be in Vegas Sept 30/Oct 1st, but it's a quick trip with a lot of trade-show networking, so I'm not sure unless we hit the same casinos.
And it's not belated yet -- I got another hour and a half ;) Thanks!
