Dentist day today. I thought I might have a small cavity forming (I did), but otherwise everyone kept telling me how great my teeth were. Must be one of those "you shoulda seen the other guy" things.

My wisdom teeth have been bothering me on and off, so I got x-rayed from so many different angles, I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to read by the glow of my teeth tonight. I had to take out my earrings for the panoramic view, because apparently silver throws off the x-rays and makes flare patterns which, though interesting, tend to make diagnosis a little more difficult. (The tech said they've historically had problems with earrings and neck-chains, but they don't seem to have a problem with tongue piercings.) I don't think I've taken these earrings out for years. The panoramic view was indeed panoramic. I used to have to look at x-rays a lot, so I found it kinda fun to look at my own for a change. My vertebrae were quite visible on either side -- kinda nifty :)

So the wisdom teeth will come out soon. I go in for a consult with the oral surgeon tomorrow afternoon. Everyone seemed to think they would go fairly well. I have three, but they're in accessible positions. I'm hoping it's routine cuz I don't react well to codeine or vicodin, so I'm hoping Ibu will be enough. It was for a root canal I had a few years ago (don't drink soda at bedtime, kids.)

Nifty is a great word.

See if they'll knock you out with something called "twilight". It's supposedly some sort of valium or something.

As for pain afterward....ibuprofen will be fine. Piece of cake. It will be uncomfortable more than it will be painful. Just follow post-op orders to avoid getting a "dry pocket". Those are the devil.

And you DO have a great smile. I can attest to that firsthand myself. ;)

Thank you :D <- patented Corto grin

I'm gonna try to get a local. I've had family members get knocked out, and others with locals, and the ones that got the locals said immediate recovery was better (if you can stand the thought of being awake while the guy is digging around in there, that is)

Um yah...my point exactly. Get knocked out. You'll love me for the advice later. ;) Although, if you were awake for the root canal, I imagine the wisdom teeth will be a piece of cake. LOL

Over an eight week period I have four appointments with the dentist and he's doing some restorative work, nothing major really, but after the dental work is complete I'll look like a Prince again. It's remarkable what dentists can do today to improve your image.

Having just gone through (and still dealing with) 3 weeks of post oral surgery complications and recovery.. (was *supposed* to be 'all good' within 5 days)... I wish you the very best and a fast healing process!

Ice is GREAT for the first day or two... for swelling... then use warm compresses after that to get the circulation going again in your jaw.

I was prescribed Tylenol 3's with codeine for the pain... but I found that all they did was make me drowsy.. and did nothing for the pain. Advil/ibuprofen worked alot better!

Again, good luck!

Peace.

I've been following your posts. I was glad to hear you're back to solid food like meat again :) I'd go nuts without having steak for a few weeks.

Looks like they're coming out, but not any time soon. I'll remember the tips, thanks!
