I worked late last night, probably one of the few people awake in the industrial section of Melbourne, Florida. I broke around 7pm to nibble on sea urchin and raw albacore, and to sip a Kirin while watching the sun set over the mainland. One thing of which I'm continually surprised, as long as I've been here, is the flatness of Florida. Some mountains would be nice, to break up the view and add some interesting geometry. The twisted tropical plants try to make up for it with their moebius of interlocking roots and branches. The fauna has little competition in a state whose second highest mountain is Space Mountain in Disney World.

I worked some more, and finally finished at 10:30 last night. Not bad, though I missed my flight home. I drove back to my folks' place, Drowning Pool's "Bodies" echoing through my car as I drove the sleepy streets next to the intracoastal, first one side, then the other. The wind was high, whipping the palms and frothing the river in my headlights.

5am, catching the earliest flight back to ATL. My local clients are getting antsy at some of the time I've been taking lately. They probably suspect I'm moonlighting and they're getting nervous. Good. And bad. I'm not ready to jump yet, though it's looking like that's what's going to happen. I got in early, headed to work, and flew through 10 hours like 10 minutes.

Now, it's prep for tomorrow. As much work as I can squeeze in, then out to New Mexico, where my brother is getting married. Some of us were to trip out to Arizona for a few days after the wedding, but I'm bagging out. I've been home for two days in the last week and a half, and I just can't be gone that long just yet. Vacation is planned this summer, late, a nice long couple weeks I'm hoping. The destination is still in the air -- Africa? Australia? Polynesia? Someplace exotic, or at least exotic to the East Coast yuppie I've found myself to be lately.

...that cut tag

My biography would be titled: I've Studied this [livejournal.com profile] petermarcus Idiot for Three Decades and I Still Don't Get What Makes Him Tick

My autobiography would be titled: Paradox For Fun and Profit

The actor I'd want to have play me when the book becomes a movie: [livejournal.com profile] quest, if he would agree to sink from theatre to the lowly silver screen.

Where I'd retire when I become a billionaire after the books & movie become best sellers: a nice beach somewhere warm. An island would be nice.

The type of house I'd have built after I retire there: A modest 5000 square foot house with lots of green plants and an enormous library.

The one servant I'd hire after building the house: Groundskeeper for my private 9-hole golf course.

The vehicle I'd drive: a 50' flybridge twin-diesel sportfisherman

The non-profit I'd donate my annual $1,000,000 tax free contribution to: The X-Prize

Where my estate would go after I die: Probably to lawyers as my 150 descendants fight over the scraps.

What I'd want done with my body: Cremated, and the ashes scattered in the Gulf Stream. I've fished enough from there; might as well become part of that ecosystem.

I don't think you were interested but the new copy of Nat'l Geographic Traveler has an article on 12 days in New Zeland if you're curious about going there.

Welcome home!
