Strange changes, all at once.

So, I've been renting furniture. When my ex and I separated, she was living in the house with all the important stuff, like the bed. She's since moved out of town, and I put the stuff I ended up with in storage. So, I was paying for rental furniture, and storage in a storage space. Money just flying away, "see ya!"

I've also been looking at this one bedroom apartment I'm in and, as I've mentioned before, it's smaller than some hotel rooms I've had. Time to make a change.

I like the apartment complex, and I love the location...so I'm moving. Three buildings over. To a two bedroom that is literally twice the size of this place, for only $150 a month more in rent. Subtract the rental furniture, and the storage space as I'll have enough room now for my books and piano and other odd bits, and I'm actually saving money while simultaneously living with twice the space. I'm Einstein, I know.

March 12th is the move date. For those with my address, the 112 will be changed to 313, and everything else will remain the same.

In preparation, I canceled the rental agreement and sent all the rental stuff back. This left me bedless, so I had to go get my bed out of storage last night and bring it back here. Picture a Ford Explorer with the tailgate tied shut and a king-size mattress tied to the roof. Tres Georgia. I didn't trust the mattress to the highway system, so I drove two counties on back-roads. Picture said Ford Explorer with the mattress on the roof driving by the Governor's Mansion in a million-dollar neighborhood in Atlanta. Tres, tres Georgia, non?

I made it in one piece, and so did the bed. I was just pulling into my development, no lie, when the rope holding the tailgate snapped and my tailgate swung up and knocked the mattress crooked. Why can't I be this lucky playing the lottery?

Here's the visual of my move, sponsored by the mapquest link to satellite photos that [livejournal.com profile] gardengnome tracked down:

Right now, I'm living on the bottom floor somewhere in the red border. I'm moving to the bottom floor somewhere in the blue border.

Now I have to get all my utilities moved 500 feet. This oughta be fun.

Pretty close -- moved stuff (on my roof) from way the hell out of town in the sticks to the center of a city of 4 million people.

While playing Linkin' Park. Somehow, it's more fun that way :)

Sounds great - change is always good (at least thats my opinion) and I love to move cause it causes me to sort thru all my junk. I've been in the same place for 3.5 years now and this weekend I sorted thru a bunch of krud in my study and ended up tossing about 5 big black bags of junk out in the trash. AND I STILL HAVE TOO MUCH JUNK!

Once spring gets here I'm totally having a yard sale and selling stuff off - or giving it away, which ever works best.

As far as utilities go - good luck if GA is anything like NC or MA (both states I've lived as an adult) you may be sleeping in your own bed but be without phone service for a week after you move or you might have service 3 weeks before you move even if you don't need it. Why they can't get it right (or at least closer to the move date I have no idea).

oh and I never responded back to you re: your trips up being in Lowell or Marlboro (can't remember now) but let me know if you'll be in town and bored - I live in Malden, work in Cambridge but can also work out of our office in Westford which is up near Marlboro/Lowell area.

If you're in town next weekend (tho with business probably not) feel free to come to my birthday party and meet a bunch of folks you've never seen before :).

Doesn't look like I'll be up there for another week or so, but I'll let you know :)

I just copied it from the site to my hard disk, put in the boxes, then uploaded it to my server. I don't know if you can link directly from the site, I think you have to download it and use the copy.

No problem.

Tres cool! :) Will you hire movers or do it all yourself? Heh...I'm getting a cute visual of your place with no couch. Good thing you have that uber-comfy desk chair.

Probably just me. Maybe I can con my brother into driving up and helping :)

I would hope so considering you did the same for him.

We trade off. He moves, I help. I move, he helps. With the amount that either of us move, we lose track of whose turn it is.

The problem is, the 12th is a Tuesday and I don't know if he has to work late that night. I'm trying to convince my apt complex to let me have the keys to the new apt early so I can move the big stuff on the weekend. We'll see...

I say pay someone to do it. It's worth it in the long run. And since you're in the same complex, if you pack your own stuff and let them move it, it won't cost you but $200 or so.
