(no subject)
Apr. 20th, 2009 06:23 pmSo, I stole this image from a post from
minouette, because it's just so techno-cool. A T-Shirt, with everything you need, in case you find yourself stranded in time:

Except, I don't think penicillin from oranges(etc) works on humans, except, perhaps, externally. I think you need to refine it, which is similar to distillation, and is a subject in and of itself. A bit of tinkering may figure it out, though.
Also, depending on the era I might find myself stranded it, I always forget the ratio for a good, solid steel, assuming I could whip up a Bessemer-like forge with ancient tech.
I know gunpowder is roughly 75% potassium nitrate, 15% charcoal, 10% sulfur, and sulfur and charcoal are easy to make/find, but there's a method to create potassium nitrate (saltpeter) out of manure and (ahem) pee in a dark/dry place (it's so water-soluble that high humidity might disperse it). I'd include a step-by-step for that.
If we're talking reeeallly way-back, I'd like some ratio for tanning hides.
On the other hand, I don't think I'd starve, and it shouldn't be too hard to whip up a good Hollandaise, given access to chickens and cows. The Hollandaise alone should grant me witch-doctor status among the natives.
The real question I'd like to know, from you modern humans on my friends list -- what is missing from this shirt that you'd like as a cheat-sheet? Math equations? Pi to 99,000 digits? How to extract gold from black sand? How to gut a deer? What the chemical formula for photographic plates is?
