Past and future
Jan. 19th, 2009 09:16 pmTomorrow is the turning point of American politics, something that has happened only 42 times in the history of this country. W, like his father, will most likely amble off the world stage and retreat to Texas, content to watch the tumbleweed, and, perhaps, to fish or watch a ballgame. Bill Clinton left little furrows in the 200-year-old wood floors as they dragged him out of the White House, yet the Bush clan seems to be content to reflect on their office and toss out the occasional revisionist historical statement.
The Clinton spotlight may be rising again, but W will most likely avoid the history of the other father-son presidents, the Adams family (so to speak), where John Q Adams (the son of John Adams the Founding Father) later ran for the House of Representatives and served eight terms.
Tomorrow is another turning point in very-recent American politics, though. Tomorrow will be the last day the press will go nuts about the pending historic event of Obama becoming president. Tomorrow, it will have happened, and everyone can move on to deciding how he's actually doing -- like, you know, actually being executive and all.
