Dec. 10th, 2005 09:29 amThe other day, Christey and I were in the store and there were a couple of those checkout journals of important investigative reporting scandal rags lamenting/celebrating the Jessica/Nick breakup. I stared at the covers for the 10-15 minutes it took to wind our way to the cashier, and I couldn't remember for the life of me what Jessica's last name was. I knew it wasn't Richie or Hilton.... then I laughed to myself as I realized I really didn't care, I was just doing a mental exercise trying to pull out some piece of random, useless data out of my brain. Like: who's the band who sang "I Know This Much Is True" in the 80s(*).
Of course, the next morning I woke up, and immediately thought of Jessica Simpson and her sister who is so talentless, she can't even handle a manufactured pop-star career that is just handed to her. Stupid subconscious. Sometimes I want to stab it with a Q-Tip.
My career is taking interesting turns right now, but I don't want to post publicly about it yet. I'm working pretty hard, though.
Every year I do my four-course gourmet Christmas dinner (though sometimes it's Christmas Eve -- depends on when everyone can get together). This year, I'm feeling it's going to be about a dozen people, which isn't the most I've had, but it's a lot. I've got some ideas, but I need to start being serious on the menu creation thing.
I'm way behind on my LJ and email. I keep thinking of LJ posts, but they flitter away by the time I get free time on the computer. So I play the updated Sid Meier's Pirates game instead. Addictive -- especially if you were addicted to the C64 game in the 90s.

(*)Spandau Ballet. And I knew that, but I was thinking of an 80s song the other day and trying to remember the singer, but I don't remember which one. So I picked that because it's, like, random. Except that I think someone just covered it, so maybe it's timely. I'll have to check the supermarket aisles.
