May. 21st, 2005 12:19 pmSo, I've been having some major boat problems the last couple weeks. Some water from the last hurricane last fall got into an engine part and finally dissolved something major into a pile of rust powder, which in turn caused a couple other parts to go....and so forth.
Boat has been in the shop for a couple weeks. I needed a major part, basically a mount for the lower part of the drive, and finally found a used one in great condition in in Sarasota this week. I just drove down, picked it up, and drove it back up to the mechanic. He looked it over, nodded his head a lot, and said, "Oh, good. Looks like I got myself a project, now!" Never good words. *sigh*.
Always the optimist, I'm just glad the engine went all suicidal 10 feet from my dock instead of 25 miles offshore. That would have been a loooong, expensive tow back to port.
Next month, I will have owned this boat for a year, and I'll probably have put close to the same amount of money into it as what I bought it for. 90% of that was kinda forced on me because of repairs due to Hurricane Jeanne. However, it's also stuff I would have done eventually just restoring this boat -- something I was going to do eventually, anyway. So, again with the optimism, I'm thinking this boat will be actually in pretty good shape, considering all the money I've been sinking (so to speak) into it. There's really nothing much more major to break! Heh.
