Apr. 12th, 2005 09:55 amThis has to be one of the most odd, yet thoughtful memes I've seen. I think I'm going to try to play this one straight. I have no idea where
_nymphette_ got this one, but it has captured my attention not unlike a mongoose staring at a cobra:
1) Would you eat a severed human foot if someone paid you $50,000 US? Safe to say, no. Now the Wendy's chili lady....
2) Do you find the sound of crickets soothing? Yes. Especially right before falling asleep.
3) Do you pick scabs? Doesn't everyone?
4) If you found a human baby and a kitten starving in the street, who would you feed first if there was no one else around? I assume this is a metaphor for human vs. animal/nature. In reality, like
_nymphette_, I can't imagine which gets fed first is going to make a life or death difference for either. If it comes to that choice, one over the other, I'd choose the baby even if the other were the last snowy owl left on the planet instead of a kitten.
5) Has higher math always struck you as pointless? No...I'm not that great at it, but I did once use calculus to derive my height above ground when I was on a ski-lift. Generally, I'm an applied vs. theory kinda guy, but math makes the world go 'round.
6) Can you ice skate? Yep.
7) Do you think you will live to turn 80? Yeah, I think I'll make it that far.
8) What is your favorite historical period? Tough. I don't really have one fav...here's the top three: I like the tall-ship era (merchant more than war). WWII has always fascinated me. I would like to have experienced Carthage pre-Punic Wars.
9) Do you believe in a supreme being? I'm a reluctant agnostic. Basically, depends on which day you catch me.
10) Do you believe the rich have a responsibility to bear greater financial burdens in society than the poor or middle class? Yes...to a point. Over the point, it becomes more detrimental to society to burden the rich than it is helpful. Under the point, the rich have historically abused their position. The trick is finding that point, and convincing everyone, rich and poor, that it's the sweet spot.
11) If the world were a true meritocracy, would you have progressed as far as you have today or farther?
I would like to believe I am where I am today because of merit. My niche of the tech industry, and thus my life, is fairly sink-or-swim.
12) Did the dingo really eat the baby? Yeah, I think it did.
13) To which do you give precedence when classifying yourself: race, gender, religion, or nationality? Since classifying people into tidy groups is the best way to make me gibberingly bonkers, I tend to think of myself as an individual, along with the other 6 billion individuals on this planet.
14) Do you dream in color? I dream mainly in black and white, with highlights in color. Sin City, minus the non-stop violence, has the look and feel of many of my dreams.
15) Are you primarily diurnal or nocturnal? I used to be quite nocturnal, now I value mornings. I lean diurnal.
16) Do you speak any language fluently besides your native tongue? Nope. At one time or another, I studied German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, and (heh) Esperanto. I get by in Spanish, not fluent.
17) If you had the power to create a heaven and select one deceased person worthy of going there, whom would you choose? Mother Teresa.
18) Is OJ guilty? As sin.
19) Would you have sex for money? I'll pass.
20) Can you play a musical instrument? Used to play piano, keyboards in a HS garage band, bass guitar in a college garage band, and screw around a bit with a guitar. Unfortunately, I don't think I could play anything these days. Definitely something that you have to keep up with religiously.
21) Have you ever purposefully starved yourself? Nope. Miss food? Not intentionally.
22) Are you afraid of the ocean? I'm taking this a little more seriously, because I'm out on the ocean all the time. I'm not afraid of the ocean, but I have a great respect for it. Respect mainly being that the ocean is constantly looking for some advantage to exploit, sometimes fatally. I wouldn't call that fear, though.
23) Do you root for the underdog? Always.
24) Do you consider most professional sports to have a deeply homoerotic undertone? I think any enthusiastic group of same-sex people has homoerotic undertones, from football teams to quilt groups. I don't find it deeply so, however.
25) Do you frequently suspect others of having an ulterior motive? Frequently...no.
26) Do you laugh out loud when you're alone? LOL -- I guess so.
27) Do you know how to ride a horse? I've done this several times. I don't think I'd say I know how.
28) Have you ever bitten anyone with the intention to harm them? No.
29) Do you believe love must always entail sacrifice? Yes.
30) Would you enter a burning building to retrieve an inanimate object? Hmmmm....depends. Philosophically, I'd say no. If I were at the Library of Alexandria centuries ago....
31) If you wanted to have children, would you rather adopt or grow your own? I'm a grow my own kinda guy, instinctively. I don't think I'd have a problem with adoption.
32) Is your Ebay feedback rating a source of pride to you? Never even looked at it.
33) Do like to play dress-up? Only when it's fun. I detest suits at work. I like dressing up for dinner every now and then. I think I look great in a tux.
34) Do you support euthanasia for the terminally ill? With the prior consent of the ill.
35) Have you ever had a panic attack? Yes.
36) Ever get the feeling you're being cheated? I own my own business. I play poker. I fish. Suspicion of being cheated is sort of a way of life. The feeling is wrong many more times than it is right.
37) Do you have some awful secret you would rather die than have anyone find out about? Nope.
38) Was Feodor Kuzmich really Alexander in disguise? I suspected that this was referring to a czar, but I had to look it up. Boy, those wacky czars and their faked deaths. No, even knowing next to nothing about Alexander I and Feodor Kuzmich, I tend to think that the faking of death thing is a fictional device that never works in the real world. That includes Elvis.
39) Do you dislike public transportation? I think it depends on the system. I loved the Paris Metro (well, minus the smell in the catacombs). I will now avoid the public bus system in Costa Rica. Similarly, and respectively, Washington DC, and Los Angeles.
40) Is there anything you regret? I try to live the "no regrets" life. I'm not always successful.
