I had a bit of a scare this morning. Last night, I checked one of the stringers, and all was well. This morning at around 11am, I went to take off the clamps, and found a foot and a half of water throughout the entire boat. Like, a tremendous amount just overnight. It really freaked me out, because it didn't rain, so I thought maybe I had screwed something up and there might have been a leak somewhere. I pumped it all out, and kept an eye on it all afternoon as we (me, my dad, and Christey) worked, trying to spot the leak, but no luck. I think I finally figured it out, though. We had these huge winds last night, and it was a new moon low-tide (the lowest of the lunar cycle). The winds were of a direction to blow the water out of the canals and bay, so the tide was even lower than the low it should have been. I think my boat got stuck on the sand in a low-low-low tide and as the tide rose, the boat stayed stuck for a while. There are a few holes in the boat and transom for things like the bilge pump and control wires and such (i.e. normal stuff), and I think the tide rose over the holes and water started coming in. Once the tide rose a certain amount, the boat popped free of the sand and the holes were above the water-line again and the influx stopped. Since noon, when I got all the water out, there's been no more new water in, so I'm thinking that must have been it. Leaks don't just seal themselves, and eight hours of no new water makes me feel better. Big time scare though. Nothing more frightening than a leaky boat.
