The wind and storms lately have been awesome.

I was driving by the mall on Monday, when we were getting 30mph winds with 50mph gusts, and I watched showers of sparks fill the air as trees leaned against power lines. Yesterday morning, a full palm tree -- trunk, fronds, and all -- was floating downstream in my canal. There are leaves and debris all over the ground like the aftermath of a tropical storm. The wind howls like a Northern winter storm. The wind picked up my overturned canoe and moved it to a different spot in my yard. I needed to tie it down, lest it end up in the rigging of my neighbor's sailboat.

During high winds like this, we get interesting things washing up near the seawall. I had asked my neighbor a couple months ago to save a coconut the next time one drifted under his dock. I figured I might try to plant it. This morning, a coconut was sitting in my backyard. He remembered! Heh. Now I have to look up on the Internet how to plant one of these things. I don't know if I just make a hole and bury it, or if it needs special treatment like sprouting an avocado.
