Mar. 31st, 2004 09:42 amI'm getting into Yahoo! Launchcast. If you're a Yahoo member, you can pick a few bands you like, and then it creates a streaming station with music you like. It'll throw in other bands from the same genre, or bands that the band itself likes, or bands that fans of your bands also like. It'll also just throw random songs in.
You can rate each song or album or band as they are played, and the system is supposed to learn what you like and don't like. It's supposed to get to know you, like some sort of computerized butler.
So far, I've been using it for a couple days, and it's not doing too bad. It's a bit weird switching beteen Duke Ellington and Korn, but the new suggestions are pretty good and I'm training the sucker well. Right now, it's playing Finger Eleven, because fans of Disturbed tend to like Finger Eleven.
It did throw Hillary Duff at me during some moment of electronic insanity: "This song is popular with Launchcast listeners!" So, while only briefly entertaining disturbing thoughts about the state of our Republic, I selected the wonderful button: "Never Play Her Again" and problem solved!
