Feb. 29th, 2004 10:36 pmMurphy's Law: When you've been stuck in traffic for two and a half hours, and you have to go to the bathroom and you're almost home except for one more small, insignificant bridge....it will be a drawbridge and it will be raised.
I did a round trip through Florida this weekend. St Pete to Melbourne, then back through Orlando and back home. I kinda like the drive out...most of it is through Nowhere, FL, which doesn't exist much any more. I saw armadillo rooting by the side of a road, wild turkey standing near some woods, a nine-foot gator, and about a billion snapping turtles. Think: The Wild Kingdom of Central Florida, viewed at 80MPH.
Melbourne Beach was windy and full of the noise of crashing surf. It is apparently pufferfish spawning season, so fishing was nothing but fish after fish chock-full of lovely neurotoxin.
I hit Orlando on the way back, going to
sunyata__'s housewarming, which was a lot of fun.
The way back to St Pete was full of the aforementioned traffic -- I-4 was compressed down to one lane, in two separate places, as construction crews were building overpass bridges.
The water is calm here at home, the stars are lovely and the breeze smells of salt.
