Sep. 11th, 2003 12:50 pmThe cynic in me cringes at political leaders, both the hawks and the doves, using the date today as a symbol of their own agendas. Two years ago, I wrote of ghouls -- mythological creatures that need to feed on the corpses of humans to survive. So, in a sense, I feel any political leader, dove or hawk, that uses 9/11 for their own purposes today is a ghoul.
The optimist in me allows me to give the benefit of the doubt to them...for today only. They point to destruction not for their own power, but for the purpose of peace and security for us, and for the world.
I remember the act as the act, a zen-like pause of past and future meaning. Lives that were, and are not now, in a series of moments that did exist, and no longer exist.
