petermarcus! (PAX, 4:30): petermarcus (Diane Keaton) ruins in2oblivion (Woody Harrelson)'s favourite bagel while house-sitting. The week after, indighost (Gary Coleman) bakes 500 cookies for a bake sale, but andysoft (Valerie Bertinelli) eats them all. Then, hellarad (Sean Astin) misinterprets an email from petermarcus (Diane Keaton) and tries to get into a hotel for free. That same day, mrbad (Beverley Mitchell) sets aristophren (Gene Kelly)'s grapes on fire. Upstairs, mopedronin (Jodie Foster) cleans ohmyhead (Antonio Banderas)'s apartment and ruins the pocketwatch. Craziness ensues.

Here illustrates the difference between the United States and Europe:

Europe goes to the moon with SMART-1: Light, cheap, solar-powered, small, robotic. One-way trip to the moon: 18 months.

US goes to the moon with Saturn V: The most complex machine ever built in the history of man, $4 billion(*), powered by hydrogen and explosive kerosene, manned. One-way trip to the moon: 3 days.

One could say this mindset illustrates why Europeans drive Renaults and Minis, while Americans drive SUVs. One could also point out that Americans have lost interest in the moon (been there, done that) and that Europe and Asia are going to kick our butts in space exploration if we don't come up with something more advanced than a low earth orbit space shuttle approaching the 30 year old technology level.

Makes me almost miss the Soviet Union.

(*) approximately $4 billion in 1960 dollars, which would be almost $24 billion in 2002 dollars, except that we couldn't build one now if we wanted to. Obsolete parts and modern manufacturing bloat would require a completely new ship.
