Ouch. Headache. The ring of my cellphone jars the fillings out of my teeth. It's just too...loud. And high pitched. And loud.

Ah, Ibu.

So, the media complains that they couldn't go along during the guerrilla warfare in Afghanistan and were only able to broadcast scratchy green movies from laptop cameras over satellite cell phones. Now, for Iraq, a completely different kind of warfare from the mountains and canyons of Afghanistan, the Pentagon invites the media along with individual military squads and companies. Like, right there in deep like hasn't been done since Vietnam. What possibly can the major media outlets complain about this time? Well...nothing. I think they're stunned.

Howie Kurtz is a Washington Post reporter who reports on the media itself. I like him, he's got a tough beat and he's balanced. He's not a media cheerleader, and he's not a savage outcast. I think most of his columns ring with an irony that he is reporting on something that he considers himself to be a member.

The pros and cons of the media on the front lines...the fog of war, journalists potentially deserting squads to find better news, problems and solutions of instant media coverage...Kurtz gives an excellent rundown here:

(You may be asked to fill out a silly demographic poll. I always put in that I'm a male, born in 1901 from zip 33445, which is a zip code just south of West Palm Beach Florida. Today, I feel like it.)
