Sep. 8th, 2002 05:34 pmThe great and annoying thing about alternative music is that it's always an experiment. So, there's stuff out there that grabs ya, and there's stuff out there that repels ya.
Here are five that grab me right now:
1) Disturbed - Prayer
2) Stone Sour - Bother
3) Korn - Thoughtless
4) Trust Company - Downfall
5) Coldplay - In My Place
Here are three that make me want to listen to anything else. Anything. Even the Dixie Chicks:
1) Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way, or anything else since "Under the Bridge" for that matter. When this song comes on, I will turn the station so fast the dial will glow red from Doppler shift.
2) Any of the three Linkin' Park remixes. Come on -- you can't improve on perfection, you can only make it worse.
3) Any of the thirty or so Eminem songs out right now. Other than "Without Me", which is clever, yet overplayed.

Went shopping today.
Bought this:
1) 25 copies at Kinkos of biz financials for an SBA loan.
2) An optical wheel mouse.
3) A laminated map of the world.
4) Sticky stuff to hold the map to the wall
5) Little sticky dots to put on the map.
6) Two Stephen Ambrose WWII books
7) A fishing magazine.

Top three most politically astute comments I've read today:
1) Talk of whether Bush will go to war and wag the dog before Election Day misses the point. He doesn't need to wag the dog. He just needs to talk about wagging it to make the impact to keep control of Congress. (Dick Morris)
2) But administration hard-liners say that the attempted purchases [of uranium enrichment materials] confirm Mr. Hussein's persistent determination to acquire nuclear weapons and that export controls can slow but not stop that effort. ( New York Times)
3) As the nation marks the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Bush finds himself in the unexpected position of advocating a new and massive government bureaucracy -- the proposed Department of Homeland Security with an estimated budget of $37.4 billion and a work force of 170,000 employees.
