Aug. 15th, 2002 07:56 pmDreams are just plain weird.
I had this dream last night: I'm looking at a map of Europe and explaining to someone that Holland and the Netherlands and "the Danes" are all the same country, and that the term "Holland" comes from "Hot-Land" which is not "hot" as in temperature, but from the old German meaning "high" because the Vikings landed there and were surprised at the mountains. The Vikings being plains dwellers, of course.
So I forget about it when I wake, of course, and I'm in the shower, and just as I reach for the knob to turn off the shower, out of the blue I think, "The Danes are from Denmark, not Holland." And the whole dream comes back to me in one big crash. I was just about laughing. I think "hoch" is the German term I was looking for, though "Hoch Deutsch" is the people (or dialect) from the southern part of Germany -- it's flat near the sea. And Viking plains dwellers? Sheesh, what dark, neglected corner of my mind was firing last night?
I felt like...like...Cliff Claven!
