Aug. 11th, 2002 09:51 pmAh, home. Fun time, mixed with good biz strategy. Worked on biz plan stuff a lot, did a lot of research, and started writing.
But, I also had a lot of fun. I caught more fish than I can count, almost all of them useless stuff like catfish and ladyfish. Saturday, though, my sister and I hooked up with a friend of hers with a boat, and we spent all day and most of the night buzzing up and down the Indian River. Did a bit of swimming and a lot of fishing on some of the spoil islands. We started a barbecue on one of the spoils at sundown, cooking burgers and dogs as night fell like a theatre curtain after the last musical number. The noseeums (little biting gnats) were bad. We finished cooking and swam back to the boat where things were much more bearable. We fished under one of the causeways at night, quiet except for the cars and trucks zooming by overhead. Suddenly, there was a huge thump in the water and we all jumped. Someone had thrown something off the bridge and it missed us by four or five boatlengths. It looked like a small duffelbag, and overcome with curiosity, we motored over and picked it up. Drugs? Money? Body parts? What would someone throw off a bridge into the intracoastal waterway? Porn. Lots of it. Videos, mags, pics, you name it. The best theory we came up with is a pissed off girlfriend, but otherwise, we were all kinda stumped.
We motored back to the boat ramp at 1AM, plankton glowing phosphorescent in the propwake and Perseid meteors shooting overhead. I drove back to my folks' place land-sick and exhausted, but a good time.
I flew back tonight, grabbed a martini at the neighborhood hangout, now I'm gonna grab some sleep while I can. I gotta get up early and get a filling in the morning, something I postponed until after the wisdom teeth saga, then it'll be a week of work that, for a change, will be local Atlanta stuff.
