Why do I own my own company again? Well, I have a couple interesting potential clients coming down the pike (including a fun one that may require me to install a system in Costa Rica).
But then, there is the annoying governmental paperwork crap. So, waaaaay back in April, I accidentally overpayed my payroll taxes. I was late, too, so there were penalties and interest and all that IRS fine print. No biggie, I payed the late penalties cuz I didn't realize I was over at the time. In June, when I did notice, I filled out the "accidental overage" paperwork, explaining exactly why I goofed and all that nonsense. On my June 941, I subtracted the overage in the adjustments area, noted the paperwork I filled out...
So all square, right? I payed the late fees in April, I subtracted the overage on the next forms, so we should be all even (well, technically the IRS owed me a buck from late fees and interest on an overage, but they can keep the buck). Wrong. I got a check from the IRS yesterday returning my overage from March. The overage that shouldn't exist since I underpayed the next quarter to even it out (correctly paperworked, yet). Fun IRS inefficiency -- they calculated the late fees and interest on the overage and returned that as well in the same check, and
they even payed me seven bucks interest for holding my overage for most of the year.
*sigh* So I'm sure to get a threatening letter in about two months when they suddenly realize I'm "under" for the 2nd quarter.
I am so ideologically for a
National Retail Sales Tax that would get rid of this payroll tax drain on the American economy, but I am moderate enough (and political enough) to be sure it will never, ever pass.
