One year ago today, almost to the minute, I created my very own LiveJournal. How much can change in a year.

It's my ex's birthday today. Strange coincidence that I started my LJ on her birthday...I don't remember the exact circumstances of starting mine, other than I had been thinking about it for a few days after following [livejournal.com profile] gardengnome's jump from her literary webjournal to here.

So I called my ex to wish her a happy birthday. Things seem okay for now.

Afterwards, my lawyer called and gave me my court date -- the divorce will be final on October 10th.

So, I'm flying to Boston tomorrow, flying back Friday night. My plane leaves tomorrow morning at 6:30AM Atlanta time, and I'm supposed to be there something like 2 hours early for "extra security". Good thing I can sleep on planes.

I'm mildly worried about flying between two terrorist targets, but I'm not afraid. Can you have worry without fear? It seems to be my attitude.

Mick Farren, in his offbeat SF novel Necrom notes the following:

If all those years on the road had taught [ex-rock star] Gibson anything, it was that travel gets easier the less that you have to do with the mechanics of it. The car takes you to the airport, the airline takes your luggage, the cabin attendants bring you drinks. They are paid to do these things; as far as you're concerned it's their reason for being. They maybe even enjoy it. Fuck-ups were inevitable, but there was no way to beat the process. Insure as much comfort as you could, but, after that, behave as closely as possible to a piece of luggage and let them do it for you.

I'll be pretending to be luggage, and I'll let y'all know tomorrow evening when I get back to my hotel what flying in the latter part of 2001 has become.
