Nov. 5th, 2000 05:31 pmGotta cook soon -- I cook on weekends, Dawn cooks during the week. I'm gonna try out this new shrimp recipe that I like the sound of, but I have to alter it a bit.
We signed up for SCUBA lessons today. It's been 7 or 8 years since I've been diving, and Dawn's never been, so I figured I'd get us classes, and I can refresh along with Dawn's certification. SCUBA lessons are at a discount in winter :) Our first class is Wednesday night.
Marcus' Top 5 favorite drinks:
1 -- Vodka Martini Stoli, if possible, and an 'in-and-out' martini if I feel like taking the time (put ice in a shaker, pour in vermouth, shake, pour vermouth out, pour vodka in, shake again, strain into glass, add one olive). The vermouth just coats the ice and melts it a little bit. With vodka martinis, there should be virtually no taste at all other than a hint of olive and a whisper of vermouth. The point of a vodka martini is pure texture, so it should be cold and clean.
2 -- Single Malt Scotch The Balvanie is my brand, but I like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich as well. I like the whiskey-tasting scotches more than the peat-tasting ones. I like it either on the rocks, or nursing a tall neat shot, where it can be warmed by my hands as I drink it.
3 -- Labatt Blue (Light) I'm the typical son of a German father...I grew up drinking German beer here and there. So, I can't stand the American stuff due to the 'Making Love in a Canoe' factor. On the other hand, I am American, so German beer is too heavy to drink every day. So I do what a lot of German-Americans do -- I drink Canadian. Enough taste, but not heavy. I've been drinking the light lately because it's less sweet.
4 -- Manhatten, up Kind of a whiskey martini...bourbon (or Jack Daniels) with a splash of sweet vermouth and a cherry. Sometimes a dash of bitters thrown in. Very mellow, especially when chilled, but served strained in a martini glass.
5 -- Tequila and OJ I can't drink tequila straight anymore, even a decade after a certain incident involving salt, lemon wedges, and the entire planet tilting 15 degrees off of its axis for a few hours (if I remember correctly, I crashed a 'greeks and girls' fraternity party that night, even though I was an independent. I had a good time, if that means anything...until the next two days or so). I love tequila in OJ, though -- it cuts just enough edge off the agave.
