In some ways, this day before vacation is slow -- people are leaving already, so work is dragging a bit.

But, I'm going to Costa Rica tomorrow for a small bit of biz and a big bit of fun. I've been running around all night and all day, getting my junk together, finding passports and collecting reservations and taking care of the little things done one has to do before leaving the country.

The biz portion of this is going to be...interesting. There are already scandals and rumors and a just bit of petty crime surrounding this whole job. Nothing that's affecting me directly, but it seems you can't do biz in Central America without at least a little bit of shadiness tainting the whole atmosphere. I'm sure I'll have some interesting insights when I get back.

Have a good Independence weekend for all my fellow Americans. For the rest of the world, please don't call the landlord if we make too much noise celebrating. You really don't want a bunch of homeless Americans wandering the world, cluttering up the corners of your country, do you? ;)

I hope you have a safe and rewarding trip.

It was beautiful, mostly safe, and hopefully rewarding in the near future.

You would have gone nuts there, man. It's the rainy season, so there were tropical birds and flowers everywhere. A nature photographer's dream. You would have filled a dozen laptops with pictures.

Awesome. I wish I could have been there. Welcome back. I was going to sat welcome home but I guess you aren't really there much.

Costa Rica is beautiful. Been there a few times (my godparents live there)... have fun! Don't get caught in the rain.

Yeah, it did rain. Not badly...but there was always a storm or two brewing around. Absofuckinlutely beautiful, though. What part do your Godparents live in? I was in San Jose (interesting, but a little gritty) and Quepos, halfway on the Pacific. The coast is just spectacular.

Good luck
have a safe trip
and don't take any wooden pesos while you are down there

Colones, not pesos. And at 350 colones to the dollar, I think wood was too valuable for coins :)

probably so.
